About the award:
Dr. Chan was awarded the Hong Kong RGC Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS) , a very competitive award of which the evaluation is based on peer reviews by internationally renowned scholars regarding the applicants’ track records and academic achievements. He is the first social work scholar who has ever received this award. Only four scholars across all universities in Hong Kong were awarded in 2016. As the only awardee who is not Full Professor this year (cf. over 90% of the previous HSSPFS recipients are Full Professors at the time of award), Dr. Chan has been recognized in the assessment reviews as “world-class” and “passionate”, and have demonstrated outstanding achievements. The President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong highlighted this achievement that “our competitiveness in the HSSPFS is a validation of the remarkable talents we have in the field of humanities and social sciences.”
