Nominating/Approval Procedure

AVA Vincent J. Felitti Distinguished Scholar Award*

Purpose

The AVA Vincent J Felitti Distinguished Scholar Award is awarded to outstanding healthcare professionals who have made and are making significant contributions to advance education and research on the prevention, recognition and treatment of the health effects of violence and abuse. In addition, they have made and are making exceptional contributions to advance health and social policy that promote safe families, workplaces and communities.

The AVA Vincent J. Felitti Distinguished Scholar is the highest honor that AVA extends to its academic community.

Recipient of the award will be:

  • Designated as the AVA Vincent J Felitti Distinguished Scholar
  • Receive a crystal award that will be presented at the AVA Global Summit
  • Listed on the AVA website
  • Agree to give an awardees presentation to the plenary at the AVA Global Health Summit

Criteria

  • Healthcare professionals who are demonstrating a sustained record of academic and/or scientific accomplishments in the field of violence and abuse
  • Developing educational courses and/or discovering new scientific methods or technical knowledge
  • Contributing to health professional literature on violence and abuse
  • Leading successful interdisciplinary efforts to move the field forward
  • Sharing knowledge and influencing national and global health professionals in the field of violence and abuse
  • Acting to promote and protect the publics’ health, wellbeing and safety
  • Mentoring health professionals in the field of violence and abuse

Nominating Process and Application

Any AVA member may initiate a nomination, provide a letter for nomination, include the nominee’s current curriculum vitae and a statement from the nominee that they accept being nominated. Nominations will be presented to the award committee for selection and approved by AVA Board of Directors.


AVA ChangeMaker Award*

This award is given by AVA to honor individuals that have demonstrated exceptional ability to advance the mission of AVA and whose work has a broad impact on our global community.

Criteria 

Individuals that have demonstrated exceptional ability to make change happen in how society enhances the health and safety of all people across their lifecourse

Eligible Nominees: Nominees can be but are not limited to healthcare professionals.

Any AVA member may initiate a nomination, provide a letter for nomination, include the nominee’s current curriculum vitae and a statement from the nominee that they accept being nominated.

Nominations will be presented to the award committee for selection and approved by AVA Board of Directors.

AVA ChangeMaker Award will be presented by the President of AVA at the Global Health Conference and those so honored will be posted on the AVA website, Facebook page and disseminated by twitter.

 

*Each Awardee will receive complementary registration to the AVA Global Health Summit and have their United States travel related costs reimbursed by AVA.


Nora Montalvo-Liendo Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Leadership

The AVA Nora Montalvo-Liendo Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Leadership is awarded to an exceptional AVA Scholar who has made significant contributions to advance research on the prevention, recognition, and treatment of the health effects of violence and abuse. In addition, they have shown exceptional leadership in advancing health and social policy that promotes safe families, workplaces, and communities.

The recipient of the award will be:

  • Designated as the Nora Montalvo-Liendo Awardee for Excellence in Scholarship and Leadership
  • Receive a crystal award at the Global Health Summit
  • Listed on the AVA website

Criteria

AVA Scholar:

  • Who is demonstrating a sustained record of academic and scientific accomplishments in the field of violence and abuse
  • Contributing to health professional literature on violence and abuse
  • Has established exceptional ability as a leader in the field
  • Acts to promote and protect the publics’ health, well-being, and safety
  • Mentors health professionals in the field of violence and abuse
