Thomas F. Boat, MD

Thomas Boat, MD, became dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and vice president for health affairs on July 1, 2011. He is the 49th dean in the medical college’s nearly 200-year history.

Dr. Boat, who is also a professor of pediatrics, previously was the executive associate dean for the College of Medicine and chief executive officer of University of Cincinnati Physicians. He was instrumental in unifying 15 separate physician faculty practices into one UC Physicians corporation.

From 1993 to 2007, Dr. Boat served as director of the Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation and chairman of the UC College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics. He also has served as physician-in-chief of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

After receiving his medical degree in 1966 from the University of Iowa, Dr. Boat completed a pediatrics residency at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at the University Hospitals of Cleveland.
